What is Title I?
Title I is part of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act adopted in 1965. It was renewed in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002. It is the section of the federal education law that provides funding to elementary and secondary schools for programs and services to help disadvantaged students succeed.
What is the purpose of Title I?
The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to reach state learning standards. Title I is intended to help close the gap in academic achievement between students in different ethnic and income groups.
How will Title I funds be utilized?
Teacher Salaries: The school is able to hire additional teachers. This means that there are more teachers, so we can try to keep class size smaller.
Paraprofessional Salaries: It takes more than just teachers to make the school year a success. We have a Teacher/Family Advocate who works to assist teachers, parents and students resolve issues of access to resources, both inside and outside the classroom. They are able to make home visits to contact parents and let them know what is happening in the classroom with their child. They also serves as our School Bell and Homeless (HOPE) Advocate.
Instructional Supplies: The school is able to purchase additional materials for the teachers and students. This year, a significant amount of money has been set aside to computer programs that will allow students to practice and develop new skills.
Professional Development: Teachers will be given a variety of opportunities to attend classes that will train them on new ideas, strategies, and procedures that will increase student success and achievement.
Parental Involvement: We are provided additional funds to provide activities for parents to come and learn about their child's education and how they can support it.

Posted below is our Title 1 Notification letter for 2018. This letter examples how our Title 1 funds are spent. The attachments include both English and Spanish. Note: As of September 14, 2018, one substitute teacher is provided for the students in one Beginning and Advanced Art classroom.
